DESCRIPTION
Brandon Groundworks Ltd. was contracted to construct a reinforced concrete ramp at the entrance of the Founders Building at the Royal Holloway University in Egham.
Upon commencement of works, unknown live services were encountered and had to be exposed in their entirety by hand digging only. Whilst doing this, yet more services were encountered and it was decided that to safely complete works , the entire excavation be completed by hand.
Whilst carrying out this work , the ramp was re-designed to incorporate the existing services, with some services being rediverted or removed completely.
Brandon remained present and on hand with the project until a suitable solution was agreed upon.
A mass concrete base was constructed in and around the existing services incorporating expansion joints and compression joints around the drainage.
On completion of this we then formed the reinforced concrete ramp, with wheelchair access from both sides of the entrance, including steps and radius curves.
